I have really been impressed with this thing. The stainless pot gets up to a rolling boil and we cooked pasta in it the other night!

I did come across a lot of different info. I went this direction to keep it simple with little to no bought materials.

I like the above PDF because of the use of natural materials. I did consider purchasing fire brick but I'm glad now I didn't. SIMPLE mud sand straw works GREAT!
I'm doing this as both an outdoor kitchen and deciding if i want to build something like this into my Earthship kitchen.
I also have a few old PDFs on the Lorena stoves before the rocket combustion chamber that are interesting.Last edited by Jeff Pearson; 06-22-2013, 01:49 PM.

Hi Jeff,
Nice project.
Ive been building some stoves for fun recently, learning to weld at the same time. I came across the aprovecho site at the beginning and learnt alot about heat transfer and efficiencies in wood combustion. I have been using old gas bottles as my burn chambers, and fabricating chimneys from whatever I can find at the scrappers. Been keen to build a rocket style stove lately with a self feed system.
Anyway, good to see someone else tinkering with them. BTW, I actually learned from that site that stainless is not ideal for heat transfer, it actually acts as a mild insulator. I think its because of the high silica content? IF you havent come across the Aprovecho site check it out. Wealth of info.
Regards

Its got a chimney now. I will continue slip forming the mud chimney. I have really been impressed with this thing. The stainless pot gets up to a rolling boil and we cooked pasta in it the other night!

A Lorena is an indoor wood cook stove with a chimney to send the smoke outside. Lorena means of mud or something similar. The design has since been upgraded with the rocket combustion chamber and has lots of different names actually.

Some pics of my Rocket Lorena project. I used a form for the combustion chamber, the rest is free formed mud, bottles, cans
