    For DIY nerds out there interested in batteries, a pretty simple and cheap battery chemistry to work with is Zinc ion-either primary or secondary types. This post is concerning secondary (rechargeable).

    Zinc Ion Rechargeable Battery- DIY


    Anode: Conductive carbon, fine mesh Zinc powder (washed in appropriate solvent to degrease and get rid of some oxide within the powder). Ideally the carbon is soaked in super saturated colloidal silver and then dried slowly or freezedried, but not heated above room temp.

    Cathode: Carbon with silver colloid, support metal mesh such as Ni or Ag or copper

    Electroylte: Fumed silica and aqueous solution of Zinc Sulphate and 5%wt PbSO (lead sulphate) addition li+ ions can be added to increase cell capacity. PEG can be added in varying amounts to prevent dendrite formation, PbSO prevents dendrite crystallization, and the Fumed silica creates a very difficult path of crystallization all without sacrificing charge and discharge speeds.

    Separator material between electrodes: fiber Glass Mat-ultrathin, mesoporous cellulose acetate thin film, or optional separator/gel electrolyte combination with slightly different more complex chemistries.

    Nominal cell voltage- 1.2-1.8V @100-800+mAh\g (with Li+ or other ions can reach 1000+mAh\g).

    Deep Eutectic Solvents can be used to gain voltages over 2V per cell
