    Thanks John,

    I ordered a different model last night, will see how it can be retrofit when it gets here.
    I got the rear tyre as it has the gearing on the side of it which may be handy and a wider shaft.

        Looking good John. Can you explain the timing of the 3 commutators?

          Hi John,

          There is really only one commutator C3.
          The other two are slip rings to transfer power in and out from C3.
          Ive drawn the switching in as mechanically interlocked, they should probably both be Normally Open but it doesnt effect the operation.
          This is the old design with 3 segments linked but you can see everything.
          C2 slip ring has a wire that is fed through the internals of C1 to enable transfer of power.
          The timing is as follows.
          The brush is only 1 segment wide.
          1 segment is left open before and after switching so short circuits do not occur.
          Brush meets C1 power is fed to the coil.
          Commutator rotates 15 degrees and switches off the coil.
          Brush meets C2 the coil is dumped out.

              Hello world,

              The mechanical machine is dead.
              Ive been unable to buy new commutators for months.
              Even though the surface area is 15mm wide the radiant really chews out the resin.
              Im swapping out to optical switching .
              Cant spend it when your dead.
