  • 48 Volt Battery Bank Charging Tips And Tricks

    [ATTACH=CONFIG]5571Hey Guys Looking For Some Knowledge on Charging A 48 Volt Batt Bank. Yes I know 24 Volt is Ideal for certain reasons However My question is this and there doesn't seem to be a lot of knowledge out there regaurding my question so here it is...

    I would like to divide three chargers beetween my 48 volt bank in order to optimize equalization. So to do so I would like to set parameters so as to charge 8 cells with each individual charger 3x8=m 48 and can I do this and let each charger take care of 8 cells instead of three in parallel trying to charge the whole bank off of each end +to- hope this is understandable somebody has to know.

    If you are using 12 volt batteries, just get a 4th charger, one for each batt.

      Yes this is a good way to do the charging...however 8 cells for a 12v Battery..??

        That would be 8 cells 16 volts per charger 8x3=48Volts.One String of 24 cells in series 2 Volt Rolls Surrette Tapping into three different sections One Morning Star Charge Controller every eighth cell to Charge 1 of 3 sections each... That twelve Volt Picture is just an example.

          Hi bendiman --

          What would happen if you could use one charger with a chip that Linear Technology makes and balance the "batteries" in
          your 48 volt stack. This chip also acts like a Tesla Switch and allows you to put in a precharged 5th battery in the circuit that can
          transfer charge to the battery in the battery stack that needs some charge to balance out that battery. This chip has been out for
          at least a year. They also sell a working demo board that you can buy for $150.00 plus shipping charges.

            Bedini's Energenx produced a 36/48 volt 30 amp charger that would work in this application - hard to find and pricey. If you have a constant need to charge banks of batteries on a daily basis this would be the way to go. I do happen to know where there is one that may be available.
