    hello folks

    we are now starting on a decent build for reconditioning old junk batterys

    just a few quick questions for starting

    1) transistor i can get these MJL21194G
    is there a diffrence with the original MJL21194? or is the result the same?

    2) so far i have seen a lot of videos where the neons are always flickering a bit while running.
    ours till now never do when a battery is connected.
    is this because we use bigger batterys or is there something wrong in our tuning
    we run on 170AH batterys

    You should be ok with the mjl21194g i would not mix it - even though the mjl21194g seems to be replacement for mjl21194
    look them up
    the neon bulb should never come on unless charge battery is disconnected or charge battery is flat DEAD

      thanks guy

      just had a doubt on the neons couse even john his 10 coiler shows a flickering neon sometimes not realy burning like when you disconnect the battery but just a light flicker

      now some other questions.

      we are making a solid wheel now out of wood but i was reading yesterday here that the wheel should not get to heavvy.
      can someone tell us what the max weight can be?
      its going to be made of mdf solid disc 26" 40 magnets 2.5 width spacing between them
      we think about leaving the edge 65mm wide with the magnets embedded in the surace and milling down the core to 20mm thick

      then about our coils.
      we think to double the length of the wires to improve output cause we run big batterys.
      advisable or not?

        40 magnets is way to many imho i dont see how you are going have enough spacing . its just as important to a 3-4 magnet width spacing
        21 on a 26in rim is about max/ my 16 mag 26in rim works great you need that spacing so you get the south pole between the north facing magnets//its so the transistor turns OFF and on all the way
        iv seen wood wheels work but why build in a problem into the hart of your system when you can get a rim with great roller bearings .light weight .long spin time //when i went to the bike shop told them what i was doing [showed them a pic of a ssg] said i need a rim with a good spin time they were more than happy to help [something diff than bikes all day]
        NOT CONE TYPE bearings. since its going to run for hundred if not thousand hrs GET A GOOD RIM he who has the longest free spin time is on the road to a good c.o.p. [winning] i think i spent 75$ best money i ever spent , iv had same rim 6 years thats 12$ a year . i had a mich. shop cut slots to recess magnet into rim they kill that rim [bad im still madd] DWTAI i could have done better with hack saw and blindfold
        TO move a heaver wheel all must change CORE SIZE wire ect.

        big batteries you need more transistors. if one transistor is good for 10 amp hr battery [my rule of thumb]
        do the math
        like J B always said build like i tell you get to work [Then change it if you want ]

          hello guy

          think i was not clear its 2 magnet stacked together and north out. so 20 magnets on the wheel double stacked
          spacing 2.5 times the with

          but the hint on the 10AH rule is alreaddy for us a major hint
          thanks for this info

          by the way we have build 2 alreaddy and they work like a charm

            i have never heard of any good coming out if stacking magnets i think we all would do it if it was worth the added weight ,but it easy to do and undo

              started the constuction of the new wheel

              i see if we stack magnets or not i can addapt on this when needed

                Weasel why do you want to stack your magnets anyway? One magnet is enough to open the base and pull the wheel in attraction so why? I think it will work against your efficiency because the added strength is going to make it harder to break away from the core.

                Now if you are talking about a super pole that is quite different but it sounds like you mean just doubling them.

                  hello bob.

                  our first 2 builds were based on some other sources of info we found.
                  there we got the advice to double them.

                  till now these 2 units worked well.
                  but its not a big issue to make change on this.
                  i just need to put a 10mm thick spacer underneath
                  this way i can test if there is a difference

                  here are some pics of the new wheel under constuction
                  spacing is accurate to 0.05 degree

                    just tested frre spin time without magnets and its now at 9.5 minutes on new bearings
                    i expect improvement after some run in time

                      Cannot see the last picture and really want to! Looks like you need to fix the link. Really interested in the build. Nice work, I'm envious of the tools you have at your disposal.

                        the tool s we can use are from my work
                        i work in a engine rebuilding company so we have a lot of good useble machines.
                        we only need to watch the dust
                        im glad my boss allows us to use the chop for those things

                            Soooowwwwwweeeetttt!

                            can you give us the specs on this wheel?
                            diameter, weight, thickness?

                            and I'm challenged with the bearing/shaft thing. I can find
                            electronic parts but when it comes to bearings and shafts
                            i'm a complete idiot and don't know what to look for.

                            could you give me a hint or point to a 'shafts and bearings for dummies'
                            kinda resourse?

                              yes its mdf

                              yeah i can imagine that its not easy to do this if you dont have acces to machinery like we have.
                              im Lucky i have the tools at work and allowed to use them in free time

                              as for bearings

                              i used standard machine grade bearings inner diameter 40mm and used a piston pin of same size
                              steel shaft of the size of the bearing could do as well i just had the pin arround from an engine we took appart

                              as for the wheel.... we started with a square plate 36mm thick and roughed it round with a saw
                              finished it on the machine to a diameter of 66.85cm

                              outer edge is still on 35mm after milling out the slight wobble of the plate and the middle we dropped down 1 cm to reduce weight on both sides
