    0.5mm thickness coil twisted into a pair for coil winding instead of 20awg 0.82mm?
    anyone see any problem with this? i have a whole load of 0.5 and alas no 0.8...

    no problem with that. I've used CAT5 cable before and it works pretty well.

      haha funny you should say that, i was thinking of going to the dump and getting aload of cat5, its even twisted twisted pairs, i wondered why no one has built an enormous coil for very cheap, probably the price of scrap copper..

        I made an 8" x 8" coil of CAT5 for solid state SG a while ago. 1 trigger and 7 power windings. Worked great for smaller batteries, but needed to parallel some of the wires and make it bigger for bigger batteries.
