Hello, Mike, your setup seems very interesting, though your schematic it's very small, and it's not easy to understand. In your schematic, I don't see any voltage sensing, so I assume your setup is ...
thank you for responding. I usually charge alum batt to 15 volts, and I always wondered if it is not to much...
How about alum batteries, which are the minimal recommended voltage for discharging, and maximal value for charging?
I don't know about this forum, but how about this one - https://www.facebook.com/MagneticMotor?
Mikey, this is a huge led lamp! If you will use 4 led configuration x 11 strands, probably the current draw will be 250 miliamps x 11 = 2,75 amp/hour
Take care of short circuits, the led pin's...
I'm working right now with a solid state device, I don't have any operational SG. Not anymore. Pictures from album are history, my first attempts to understand radiant charging. I still want,...
@romeo-kilo,
I'm using this battery as primary source for lighting some lights from my apartment, so the load is variable, between 0,5 - 1 amp/hour (5 to 6 hours a day, for almost a week) depending...
Thank you for the pictures, I plan to make a bigger coil, so I am interested to see how did you manage to make your coil. I like that you did show measurement of the coil, that would certainly help...
Some quick update, in charging my 70 amp/hours battery:
- 19,20 hour - starting charging, from 12,26 volts (recovered from 12,05), at 1,86 amp/hour and 12,8 volt P.S.U. (not sure why this time...
Yes, the PCB was my work, it takes me many tries to make a good one (toner transfer techniques from a glossy paper for both sides of the PCB with ironing). Still, it's better to use some big copper...
My coil it's 7 x 18 awg, and trigger it's 20 awg, and it's not 130'', but 200'' - aprox. 60 m. Yes, making the coil by myself alone, inside the house, was killing my arms. Big wires makes big...
@Mikey, it seems you have invest serious time in this. I want to ask you something: can you show some more pictures of your SSG?
@Gabriel, actually, I was thinking that charging a 65 amp battery with my 7 filler single coil SSG in 11 hours, it's too long...
I think some big wire will do the job also for a multistrand coil....
@Joster, actually, I don't think the battery should be completely dried. I was converted myself a similar battery to alum, which was not dried at all, and it was charged at SSG at 15,5 volts and...
@BroMikey,
I'm glad you like it. There are even more ways to do the job, and the lamps to look better. You can buy, for example, some circular AC led spots, and to modify them to work on 12 volts....
In the end, just a few more pictures:
2916 2917 2918 2919
There are also, other ways to do the job, or to customize even more the led lamp:
- small pieces of aluminium used for transistors,...
4. Test the led array with a battery it's always a good idea, before shrinking the thermal tube and mounting on aluminum support. Now we can add a protection resistor - 1 ohm 1/2 wat will be enough...
Materials needed:
- 1 watt leds
- aluminium profile (any available shape - simple band or U profile, from old PSU etc) - used for lead heat dissipation;
- plexiglass thicker, better, but any...
Thank you, Mike. I tried with 5 cups of Alum an 10 cups of distilled water, until I've got that slippery feel.
Yeah, I do have some door stops AGM batteries, and I did tried to convert them...
Happy New Year to all!
@BroMikey, is it complicated to convert a lead acid battery to alum? how did you do it? just cleaned a few times with distilled water and filled with alum and water 1/8 or...
Thank you, John, for your fast reply.
This 15,3 volt limit it's for all kind of batteries, or only for the new ones?
How about charging current, it's ok for this size of the battery?
Hello,
Which is the limit for pulse charging batteries in general?
I always charged my small 7 Amp/hour gell batteries to max 16 volts, but now I'm rejuvenating a 70 Amp/Hour free maintenance car...
John,
Thank you for sharing this.
I think, thought, there is a mistake, 130' are 39,624 m, no 32,624.
Anyway, here is a link to a very good wire calculator: The CircuitCalculator.com Blog » Wire...
Hy, John K,
I'm planning to buy some wire for a bigger coil - 6 or 7 strands, 0,9 mm (AWG 19) or 1 mm (AWG 18), depending on final costs, but I'm not sure about how long the wire should be for each...
@Woody,
Thank you for your reply.
can you show us more pictures, from different angles, please?
Wishing all the best,
Teo
