Properly designed DC to AC inverters can last many years and can have efficiencies of 80% to 95+%, the intensity of sunlight at the earth’s surface on a sunny day is roughly 1000 Watts per square meter. Even if the solar cells in the article end up achieving only half their stated efficiency, and even if your inverter is only 80% efficient, and even if you average the solar input over the entire 24-hour daily cycle, you still have an zero-carbon dioxide emission (not counting any emitted during the manufacture of the cells), zero-nuclear-waste, zero noise pollution and zero bird-kills power source. Other power sources fail too—do you consider those “fraudulent”?

        It's an intereresting concept.
